So I ended up being stupid and doing the pages in Painter. The end result is that I rushed the page (4 hours total invested). It turned out... acceptable I guess. Definitely areas that could be improved.

I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't feel right. Lighting maybe, working with these dark grays can be maddening when it comes time to blend the colors. Humans can clearly see more levels of light / dark than 8-bits can emulate.

I may retry doing this in Flash. That would put it closer to My Little Pony's style (and presumably be 10x faster to do), except that the My Little Fortress comics clearly show that Flash isn't a silver bullet. Skill and patience are still very important, heh.
