Warhammer 40K: My Little Pony by Telgin Warhammer 40K: My Little Pony by Telgin
First Page

So, I stumbled across My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic a few months ago, and was quickly turned into a brony. I can't explain it, and have stopped trying to.

One of the stages most bronies go through when they hear about MLP:FiM is, "I'll check this out, I might make fun of it or something."

I went through this stage too, and one of the first things that came to mind was, "What would happen if the Imperium stopped by Equestria?" Lots of fun, of course! So, here's the title page of a crossover comic I've been kicking around in my head for a month now.

There are probably a few dozen MLP:FiM and 40K crossovers by now (I know of several off hand), but they all substitute Equestria for the Imperium, with the Space Mareines, the Hogz and so on. That's fun and all, but in this crossover, the Imperium of Man enters the scene, and Equestria will never quite be the same...

I've since become a full fledged member of the herd, so the intentions and plot have changed a bit, but I think both 40K fans and MLP:FiM fans will find something to enjoy.

Of course, in the grim darkness of the far future, everything is grimdark. As heck.

Equestria. Clean garden world, full of mineral wealth. Peaceful world without knowledge of war, clashes with the universe where there is only war. Culture shock on the strength of orbital bombardment.

reaction:
Imperial Guard: This world belongs Emperor!
Space Marine: It depends on the chapter.
Ecclesiarchy: Burn the Xenos!
Inkvizive: Puritan = exterminatus and radical = use?
Mechanicus: Explore, discover, secure!
Rogue Trader: Profit!

Eldar: Use.
Dark Eldar: Blood sport.
Tau: For the Great Good!
Orks: WAAAAGH!
Chaos: For Dark Gods!
Necron: Harvest Time!
Tyranid: Time to eat.

I forgot to someone?

That sounds about right. :)

The invasion primarily involves the Adeptus Mechanicus, so it sort of side steps the issue of "Aliens! Kill them all!" A little bit anyway.

An Ork invasion would probably be pretty hilarious, if a bit short. Lots of "WAAAAGH!!!" and dakka and not a whole lot else.

Now, a Chaos invasion might be very interesting. Especially if using magic opens you up to the warp like using psychic powers do. Possessed ponies anyone?

Coming Adeptus Mechanicus, definitely just the beginning. But what happens next?
Once the message on the world Equestria reaches ear Segmentum Command, immediately there sent several regiments to secure the world before colonization.
And the Inquisition will soon follow as soon as they hear the word magic!
Astartes? Well, for example, Blood Ravens seeking knowledge?
And once it's learned that it Equestria is full of gems big price. Rogue traders and their mercenaries arrive as hungry vultures.

And the others?
It must be some explanation why there is magic on the planet, and many mutant creatures and no sign of the dark gods. I would suggest that it Equestria is lost Maiden World. Maybe there are even soul stones. Eldar have good reason to attack, especially Biel-Tan.
Tau? Too far. The story takes place in segments of Pacificus, right?
Equestria was protected from attention Chaos. But just one loophole in the protection and slaves of dark gods are here! Khorne hates peace. Tzeentch wants magic world. Nurgle expand their illness. And Slaanesh: Celestia = Molestia, how cute.
Orks? When fighting somewhere, they are immediately on the way. Or simply got lost and bored. Bored Orks = brutally enraged Orks!
Necron maybe yes, maybe not.
Tyranids from fragment hive fleet Leviathan. Always hungry.
Dark Eldar? They came to have fun at the expense of the other.

Dawn of War! I love this game.

Yes, I've not played but have seen enough to get the same general picture: though I'm vehemently opposed to all chaos and how they among all the other big bads: ruin everything and the imperium is far worse off for it

and while Molestia isnt a killer, I still dont like her, though that possible result from such influence is accurately stated as cute: makes a clever 4th wall joke/ reference/ parallel

I hadn't considered the Maiden world idea. I chose Segmentum Pacificus basically because I see it referenced the least of the Segmenta, and I'll admit I know fairly little about it. I'd best do some research on it before I start involving outside forces too much.

The Chaos gods would certainly be interested in the world, and I've yet to decide quite how I'm going to handle the magic = psychic powers idea. We'll see how that turns out.

Conversion the wild energy of the warp into a harmless mana used unicorns? It was one of the efforts of the old Eldar just before the Fall.

And very glad I can help you. If you want to.

what would happen if the imperium came by equestria
exterminatus or heresy, no other options

Pretty much. The Imperium doesn't drop by to make friends, especially with aliens (or arguably mutants in this case).

This will be from the perspective of a couple of different Imperial organizations to give it some variety though. And there are extenuating circumstances preventing Exterminatus, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

I could see most ponies (Earth ponies, anyway) getting mowed down quickly. They would pretty much have to rely on magic to stand any chance. Of course, when you actually put magic in there, who knows what could happen? If any of them are able to transmute matter using magic (dunno if they can or not), then that sounds like a quick way to even the playing field (space marine armour changing into marshmallows, for example).

Yeah, that's about what I figured. I have some ideas on how the ponies could play dirty to have a fighting chance, but since we only know so much about what sort of magic unicorns have I'll probably have to end up making some of it up. Twilight Sparkle was able to transform her parents into inanimate objects, so we know they can do that at least.

Either way, the carnage is definitely going to be slanted against the ponies, but not completely one sided.

Magic is a matter of concentration. Unicorns in the telekinesis need a focus slightly. But the more complex spells require a lot of focus. And that's not good when the bullets flying around and exploding artillery shells.
Sorry for my English.

Yeah, this is something I'm going to have to make stuff up on a bit. Twilight Sparkle is clearly capable of a wide variety of spells and seems to pull them off quickly and almost without effort. Of course, magic is her specialty, but I'd like to think military unicorns have been trained to use their magic similarly reflexively in combat.

Twilight Sparkle is unique, other unicorns with she can not match.
Regarding military unicorns. With the training can certainly conjure with extreme speed fireball, lightning, or personal magic shield. But the larger and more powerful spells, the more concentration and energy used. How long does a unicorn mental and physical exhaustion of the magic?

And do not forget that Equestria, no war for millennia. Certainly in the beginning it will be very big and ugly experience for ponies.

I have wondered about this. I'll admit I haven't watched all that many episodes of MLP:FiM, but to my knowledge they haven't mentioned military matters at all, but I suppose it's possible that they have had war since Celestia has been in charge (however long that is, at least 1,000 years).

I imagine they maintain a standing army anyway. Probably not a large one, but they wouldn't want to be caught off guard if they needed one. Not that they would expect fiery death from above, but I digress.

I agree that unicorns probably couldn't keep up military grade magic for long, and most wouldn't be able to match Twilight's breadth of knowledge, which I intend to point out in the story. Earth ponies have to be useful in the military somehow, which they are if unicorns can't keep up the magic for long.

Earth ponies, unicorns and Pegasus not are the only intelligent creatures on the planet. Further for example, zebras, gryfons, Diamand dogs, and more. Celestia kingdom, is only part of this world.

In the Equestria military are certainly represented in all three types of ponies. I am but afraid that their army is small, perhaps just as well as symbolic (Royal Guard). Their confidence in the protection of God's princesses is their biggest weakness.

if you don't mind me interjecting, you're probably dead right about that faith in their "God princess" to be their biggest military weakness... and to a degree a cultural weakness... (as in what the princess says goes, regardless of justice or fairness, even if this is usually never in question )

and the goals of symbiosis with life vs subjugation of life already has them horribly vulnerable... like how sustainable housing built from wood straw and dirt into clean and environmentally sustainable housing was infernos waiting to happen when incendiary bombs were dropped in WW2

Medieval, circa 1100s or so. Consistent with the cartoon. Steel weapons and armor, no guns (can't quite figure out how that would work for a pony anyway). And magic, of course.

They'll put up a better fight than you might expect.

well, they can use magic. that opens up options. ponies also have trains and twilights lab was electronic, so they must have steam engines and have some form of industry, but it isnt widespread in order to protect the environment(hippies). as such, i would imagine their weapons and armor to be enchanted, but not much else in the ways of weapons. they seem too peaceful to have magical steam powered tanks right out of the gates. they would also have their host of animals and magical creatures.

reading into it, i guess they might have technomancers, using technology and physical mechanics to the best of their abilities and then pull one out of the orks book and use magic for anything they cant explain.

Magic will certainly factor into it a lot. In a setting where 1/3 of the population can use magic, they would certainly have found ways to militarize it. Enchanted weapons and armor are almost a certainty, but I'm not sure how far it should go.

I'm pretty sure magic armor wouldn't stop a bolter shell, for example. At least not the kind issued to rank and file troopers, if their armor is even enchanted at all.

Weapons is a complicated subject I've seen actually debated a few places. I'm still fleshing this out, but I imagine at least some ponies would have enchanted weapons. Again, I doubt it would match up to power armor, but for lesser foes it would probably do quite well.

I also doubt that they would have mechanical tanks or anything of the like, but they would surely have midieval era siege weapons. A ballista bolt might not penetrate power armor, but it's going to put the hurt on anything weaker. Add in catapults or trebuchets and it definitely gets more interesting.
